There is a time honnoured tradition for how holidays in my family start off. Usually there is a last minute flurry of packing, running late and Dad getting cranky and snapping at people. It ends with all of us pulling out of the driveway all looking out different windows and refusing to talk to one another. It's not the best way to start a trip but fortunately we are over it pretty quickly and are talking again within half an hour or so.
This time however we were much more organised than usual. Mum had insisted we do trial packs earlier in the month and be packed completely the night before so really the morning wouldn't have been too stressful...wouldn't if it hadn't been for my bloody iPod. I plugged it in to update my music so I would have something to listen to on my flights. Anyway long story short it crashed in a ball of flames. So now I have no music.
I may die.
Anyway the trip out to the airport was good fun, only a bit of traffic after an 'incident' on the Eastern Distributer. In any case we got to the airport with little fuss, checked in our bags and settled in for some breakfast, which for me consisted of bacon and fried tomatoes on toast. It was actually pretty good, tasty. Dad read the news paper and discovered we had a Female Prime Minister in a bloodless coup amongst the Labour party. Typical that the really interesting stuff starts happening when we leave the country.
The flight itself was pretty good. We were flying Singapore Air so the food was actually really nice and we had lttle TV screens on the backs of chairs. I caught up with some movies, which was enjoyable. I watched, How To Train Your Dragon, Valentines Day, Animal Farm and the first hour or so of Avatar. How To Train Your Dragon was adorable, Valentines Day was alright, Animal Farm was sad and Avatar is awseome. So it was pretty good alround. Specially with the fish curry.
We landed in Singapore and it was a bit of a shock to come from chilly Sydney to 30 degree heat. Still we shed a layer, made it through customs, gazed at the fancy airport and then caught a bus to the hotel. We would have liked to crash then I think but sadly we were really hungry, especially Dom who had spent the entire flight with her head in a Doritos bag. She wasn't being sick mind you, she was breathing in the smell cause the smell of plane food makes her ill.
So we headed out and went to a small outdoor food market where we ate Satays, hokkein noodles and chicken with rice. It was tasty so we were all pleased and replete on the walk back to the hotel. There Dom and I returned to our room where we crashed out ready for another day.
